How to get rid of a cold sore fast
Cold sores will not disappear overnight. You can however suppress them with antiviral therapy which can ease the symptoms and shorten the duration of a cold sore if taken early enough. Antiviral treatments come in both antiviral tablets and creams. Cold sores will go away on their own without treatment, however this may take 7-14 days.
When does a cold sore stop being contagious?
Although there is no current permanent cure, cold sores go through periods where they are and are not contagious. Cold sores stop being contagious when the blister has fully healed. You can still pass on the virus even when a blister has scabbed over and there is no fluid. Therefore it is best to wait a few days after it has fully healed before performing activities that may spread the virus to others, like kissing.
